Power

UPRIGHT: the desire to shape the world to your wish, civic power, righteousness

REVERSED: injustice, domination, see also: Supremacy

THE STORY: The Power card governs the sword suit. While the suit symbolises intellectual power and rationality, in this particular case it’s more concerned with the desire to shape the world through force, for good or for bad. As a side note, while designing the card, the interest shifted from laws and contracts as a form of power (with the sword serving more as a symbol) to the very brutal reality of warfare as an expression of power. The white flame motif, representing desire, is reprised in The Wish, Love, Wealth and Immortality cards.
